Project Description
Internally a wealth of original features were restored and joinery was sensitively repaired, including polished mahogany doors and pitch pine shutters. Intricate cast-brass ironmongery was replicated. Decorative Adam-style fibrous plaster ceilings, cornices, friezes, column capitals and dado mouldings were also repaired or replicated.
Challenges Overcome
To overcome the challenges of refurbishing a Grade II listed building, we carefully balance preserving historical features with modern needs. Key steps include working closely with conservation officers to ensure compliance with heritage regulations, using specialized materials and techniques that respect the building’s character, and planning construction work to minimize structural impact. A thoughtful approach to design and adaptation allows for upgrades, like modern electrical or HVAC systems, without compromising original aesthetics.
